A Very Handsome Hinny

When Joe Joe first arrived at our sanctuary, we learned about his difficult start in life. He was just a foal when tragedy struck. His mom was shot, though the details of what happened remain a mystery to us. What we do know is that Joe Joe  persevered, growing into a strong and beautiful animal despite the tough start he had in life.

Joe Joe isn’t a mule – he is a hinny - a hybrid between a horse and a donkey. While mules and hinnies share similarities, there's a distinct difference: mules come from a male donkey and a female horse, while hinnies are much less common and are the result of a cross between male horse and a female donkey. It's a subtle distinction, but one that can make quite a difference in the characteristics of the offspring.

While many say that mules tend to be more attractive than hinnies, Joe Joe defies that stereotype. With his long eyelashes, luxurious mane, and striking features, we think he is an extraordinarily handsome equine! But it’s not just his looks that makes him stunning - his personality is a standout too. Joe Joe has an air of elegant confidence about him. His attitude is a perfect blend of charm, pride, and a bit of arrogance. We’re pretty certain he knows just how uniquely handsome he is - and we can’t help but smile every time we see him strutting and posing in the pasture.
