At Serendipity Farm Sanctuary, we often receive calls from people who need help with animals they can no longer care for. But one call was especially urgent. A woman reached out to us, explaining that she was disabled and had a pig stuck in a mud pit. Her health had declined, and she could no longer provide the care the pig needed. The owner acknowledged that the living conditions were terrible, but when we arrived, we realized things were worse than we had imagined.
The gate to the pen was so deep in mud that we had to break it down just to reach the pig. She was surviving in a smelly, muddy, hazardous environment. Her name was Bacon—originally purchased to be raised for meat, but she never grew large enough for that fate. We knew right away that this sweet pig deserved a fresh start, and because she recognized her name, we wanted to find something similar. That’s how Bacon became Beacon—a new name to represent her journey from a dark situation to a brighter, happier future.
The rescue was led by my daughter, Mimi, co-founder of Serendipity Sanctuary, along with two amazing volunteers. It wasn’t easy, but together they managed to free Beacon from the mud and safely transport her to our sanctuary, where she will receive the love and care she deserves. Mimi also captured the entire rescue and relocation on video, so we’re thrilled to share this heartwarming journey with you.
We invite you to watch the video below and see for yourself how Beacon’s story unfolded. She’s already settling into her new home, enjoying her freedom, and starting to thrive. This rescue reminds us why we do what we do at Serendipity Farm Sanctuary. Every animal has a story, and Beacon’s is one of resilience and hope.
If you’d like to support our work and help animals like Beacon find safety and care, please consider donating. Every little bit helps us continue to provide for those who need us most.
